London like New Orleans
Posted by Carlo - 16/05/08 at 08:05:00 pmCamden Town is a great place to find people that attract my attention. As I told someone in the last days, it is not a nice girl that I hope to find, but people with character, with that little shine in their eyes.

Virtual Keyboard

The eternal discussion about what is candid or street photography will rage on between the wide lens supporters and the lovers of the telephoto. I stand by my ideas: whatever you want to use to stop a moment is fine.
I spotted these two in Camden, just across the canal. I loved their mood, the way they were acting. She was focusing on explaining something, while the guy seemed interested in the explanation.
In the end yesterday photo session did not go as I expected… a lot of blurred shots, subject not extremely interesting and useless compositions. Bad day!

Is she Claire Forlani?
Posted by Carlo - 14/05/08 at 10:05:19 am
While walking in London it is not so hard to find people you feel to know. Yesterday I was walking around the South Bank (one of my usual photowalks) and I crossed a woman. She istinctively reminded me of someone, so I just triggered the camera. Her eyes were very peculiar and that strange sensation of “I know her” hit me.
When I got back at home, Fabiana stopped me on this photo saying:
“She seems Claire Forlani, the actress of Meet Joe Black”.
We looked on the internet in order to compare this lady with Claire Forlani, but it is very hard to have a good comparison between my “candid” shot and the heavily post producted photos available online. The jaw does not seem to match, thoug.
Even if she is not the actress, the resemblance is incredible, what do you think? Is she the actress or just someone very similar?
Please feel free to critic this photo in any way you like: “What does not kill me makes me stronger!”

Little Venice, Big Waiting
Posted by Carlo - 13/05/08 at 08:05:43 am
It has been a Perfect day, sunday. The only problem has been that it ended too soon. Fabiana has been extremely happy to pose for me for the entire day, and I have to be extremely grateful to her! :)
Once she always told me she hated to watch herself in the photos, but now she seems to have changed her idea. She said that it is part due to her attitude and part to my “better photos”, but I have always loved her photo.
Sunday we took the boat in Little Venice to go to Camden Lock. Everything has been great, as the waiting (unfortunately).

Sorority Attack

“Millions of years of evolution, right? Right? Men have to stick it in every place they can, but for women… women it is just about security and commitment and whatever the fuck else!”
“A little oversimplified, Alice, but yes, something like that.”

Girls’ Secrets
Posted by Carlo - 11/05/08 at 11:05:15 am
Sometimes you are not fast enough, sometimes the moment you saw with your eyes is not the moment you have caught on camera. This time it was, not perfect, not framed as I would have loved, but I stopped the time exactly when it was to be frozen!
I was walking in Watford with Fabiana and Michela. The day was good and the sun fantastic. I mounted the 50mm on my Canon 40D and I was taking some photo of my fiancee and my friend.
They were discussing about bras, sizes and other things, and I was participating in the discussion, but not being commited as they were.
I do not know what happened, but suddently I turned myself just in time to see this spectacular scene. Time to fix my eye in the viewfinder, focus, frame and…bum, it was all over. Having a prime lens did not allow me to open the scene a little bit, but the lower detail is still there fortunately!

The Friday Park
Posted by Carlo - 10/05/08 at 10:05:00 am
Yesterday Fabiana and I decided to spend some time in the park after work. It was a sunny afternoon and the temperature was great. We headed to Regents’ Park, we removed our suit jackets and we sat in the fresh grass. It was spectacular… the sun, the heat, the nice chatting and the laughing were everything we needed for a great friday afternoon.
Few hours later we remembered the first time we went in London, back in 2004. It was May and we were visiting this city for the first time. We were used to spend some time in the park also back then, but differently from today, in 2004 we had our winter jacket on and we were wondering if the peoples were mad to be in the parks just with a t-shirt. It was unbelievable back then! What have changed? Our perception of the temperature? Our lifestyle? I do not know to be honest, but I like it!

Out of Time take 2
Posted by Carlo - 09/05/08 at 09:05:48 am
Few days after “Out of Time”, one of the photos I love more from my sets, I was walking on the South Bank and I saw another timeless girl. She sat on the small concrete wall between the walkway and the Thames, reading a magazine. Her style reminded me of other past times, even if I cannot collocate her precisely (but I would say she remembered me of the ’30s)
The sun was fantastic and she was unaware of the people walking, talking and running around her. This improved the sensation of someone living in a different time.
I decided to give a strong Black and White to this photo as I did with “Out of Time”, because I feel it henhances her shape.
