Adsl speed?

In these days my SUPER 4MBit ADSL seems have been reduced to an old 56K modem internet connection.
What the h**l is happening? Even if I do not like, I have a powerful 4Mbit in download, but only 256kBit for upload. Unfortunately this is the only solution I could have, independently from the Internet Service Provider I choose.
For those who don’t know, 256Kbit in upload means that when someone is requiring data from my server he can receive it (my webpages, my images and so on) at a maximum speed of 32 KByte/sec. Obviously if there are 5 people at the same time everyone of them will get the data at (32/5) 6,4 Kbyte/sec!!!!
An old modem.

Why do an italian ADSL work in this way?

You have to think to the ADSL connection like a water tube. This tube has some specific carrying capacity, let’s guess 100 Mbit/sec maximum. Telecom Italia (but every provider do the same) divide this tube between 200 people, so the resulting carriying capacity is, more or less, 0,5Mbit/sec each user.
Why?
Easy: to save money. If they would divide the “tube” between 10 user they will get 10 paying users, in this way they get 200 paying users.
What they sell you is not a 4Mbit ADSL, but a “Maximum 4Mbit ADSL”. (4,256Mbit, you have to count the upload also…)
Their way of making business is based on the hope that not all the users will use the connection at the same time…

It’s like if you would go to buy a bottle of wine with the writing “as far as 2 liters”, without having the possibility to see how much wine you will find inside.
Who will EVER buy a bottle in which he/she can get 250 milliliters?
No One!

But the internet service providers do it. They tell us that if the minimum guarantee bandwidth would be the same as the maximum available bandwidth the user should have to pay too much to the connectivity. In this way they get the “barrel full and the wife drunk”.

I think that any wine producer that will sell “as far as” bottles will b eblocked by the state for fraud after some months, so why this is granted to the ISPs?

…that’s internet life….

Do you know why you get 4Mbit in download and only 256KBit in upload?
They tell you because they fear the Peer2Peer!

Do you REALLY believe it?

I Do Not!!!!!

I should also change Service Provider (remaining one month without connection) but the result would be the same: no miminum guarantee bandwith…
