Alea Iacta Est: RPG Again!

Yesterday evening Fabiana and I got ourselves out of our “Home Sweet Home“, and we went to the Role Playing Games Club we found on the net. The Phoenix Game Club is quite far from home, but with two underground trains we reached it in less than thirty minutes!

Phoenix Game ClubAfter a very long break we have decided that it’s time to start again with the RPGs, and it is for more than one reason. First of all playing has always been our hobby (we met in one of Trieste game clubs the first time) and it’s something we like a lot! Then it will be a good way of going deeper into the language. Of course it will not be easy!

We have choosed that specific club for more than one reason… fchouse logo is a Phoenix, and they are the Phoenix Game Club… the location was quite near, so optimal for us… from their website we have seen that they are quite serious, not a bunch of rumorous kids interested in the D&D Hit’n'Run (Ok, probably for more than one of you this would resemble Arabic language, I know, sorry)…

What did we find yesterday evening?

My mother was used to say something like “All the world is a town” that in italian means that the people are the same wherever you go. She is right: it seems that the role players are stereotyped, created with the same shape (both physical that psychological). Once there we looked on the “local Ogres:) and we discovered that a lot of them was quite the same of those we have met during our life in the “Cavalieri dell’Esagono” in Trieste. The man with the big beard and the prominent belly, the one with a good looking face and the RPG modules under the arm, the young and “I know all” pose.

Yes, we linked a lot of new faces to old friends, someone for their aspect, other for their demeanor.

I have to admit that they has been very friendly, they have welcomed us with in a very friendly manner and they have let us believe that we were at home!

Of course for the next weeks my target will be adapting to their game style, to the language, but Fabiana and I have immediately thought that we went in the right place, choosing the Phoenix Game Club in Plaistow.

In Italy we were used to met in small apartments, that was quite a good way of meeting, but we have discovered that here they met in a little detached room of a pub (The Black Lion), very good looking and with a warm atmosphere! We were favorably hi by this!

Next Thursday we will be there again, like every thursday from now on! I don’t know how much time it will take to adapt to the language, but the Arena is opened and we have felt more than welcome!

Alea Iacta Est!

“You can’t do that ! You can’t play our enemies in such a smart way, letting them to have mischievous behaviouir trying to lure our companions in their group and putting ambushes.”

That was the way of thinking of one of my players, two years ago when I decided to quit. Job position problems, a son that was near to born and … this 27 years old brat who run a RPG community with Forums and so on and the only way to think was putting ‘me’ in all sentences.

You remembered me the ol’ times when my good guys had fun with my ’smart’ way of playing enemies and NPC’s.

That time is lost for me, helas.

My players continuously blamed on me calling me “bastard”.

Sometimes the told “…no… you shouldn’t really mean what you’ve just told… don’t you?” but they were good companions for some good time. In reality they told me that with a smile on their face, because I was able to overtake them :)
I hope I will be able to mantain my mastering level also in this new language, even if I already know that it will be very hard!

I have a lot of things to do, a lot of things to think about, but here I feel like I can do it. One evening a week is not that much because, in the end, we have to live! Work to Live, not Live to Work!

Cheers Stefano!
