Books Underground: Dragons of Autumn Twighlight
Well… when I picked up this book and I read the first line I was pushed back in time, when I first had the Italian version in my hands, in the Library of my school. Let me think… I was just in my first year in the Italian secondary school, it means 1992, it means 15 years ago!
Fifteen years ago this very book pushed me to the world of the Fantasy and the Role Playing Games. The Chronicles first and the Lord of the Rings later the same month were my first encounter with the Fantasy.
Reading the same book so many years later has revealed how much I forgot, how many things I didn’t remember, but it also showed how many details I vividly recalled without trouble. I loved this book as few, and reading it again, in a different time of my life changed little. Some of the scenes are not so original as I remembered, some ideas have been used through and throug, but I have to admit that I still loved everything, from the characters to the setting.
One note of mention must be told: the characters are perfect, strongly shaped and with some very accentuated characteristics that make them recognizable everywhere (find me one “fantasy geek” who do not know who Raistlin is?).
I am very happy of this choice: where, with the other book, I was a plain reader, in this book I returned to be enthusiastic!
Recommended reading, for everyone!
PS: Two small notes…
- Looking at the spine of the book to see the logo of the Wizards of the Coast and not the TSR one is sad… I have never loved the WotC!
- The Dragonlance Animated film is ready to be released… I fear it will be crap like the Dungeons&Dragons film: I would suggest to everyone interested in Dragonlance to read the Chronicles BEFORE watching the film!!!
