Casinò: how to understand the Human Stupidity or the existence of the Economical Classes
Yesterday we decided to go in Slovenja to take a dinner out.
We were in Portorose, a cute thermal locality 20 chilometers from Trieste.
The dinner was good (and quite cheap) and to take some fun we decided to go to the Casinò. Yes, it is not Las Vegas, but it was my first time ever in a casinò: the Grand Casino Portoroz.
We played 10 euro, just to spend some time with an unknown world, looking to all of those glittering machines, green tables, cards and fiches! (and without thinking for a single moment we should change our lives with an impossible won)
It was incredible to look at the croupier while they were shuffling the poker cards, aligning the fiches on the roulette and so on. Astounishing how fastly they hands were moving!
But the most amazing thing I have ever seen happened under my very eyes when a man threw a single note of 500€ (FIVE HUNDREDS EURO) on a single roulette number, loosing it immediately and rising his shoulders a little bit before changing table to bet again.
I was (and still am) without word!
I can think about human stupidity or economical point of view…
There are people that have the “Player Disease”, for which they play all the money they have, betting their own house sometimes.
This is Human Stupidity! I mean, if I knew I have this sort of attraction for gambling I would NEVER set my foot in a casino. I would take my money away from suc a thing, maybe entering with some money and nothing more. No Credit Card, no money, no valuable things. NOTHING. Ended those? Run Home!
No, they play a lot of money, as they were ready to made the bet of their life. (Probably the first of many, in their thoughts). For how irrational this can seems I think that those people should forget about gambling, should take a walk somewhere, without flushing their money (and life) down the toilet of a casino.
The other thought that comes into my mind was that if that man played 500€ so easily, without getting angry in loosing it, it woul dmean that those money were nothing to him.
I remember when a friend of mine was caught, a lot of years ago, over the speed limit in Romania: the monetary penalty was about 1.200 lire (0,6 euro). What is half an euro when you earn 1000? It is nothing!
So, as for me 1/2 euro is almost nothing, for that man that 500 euro was nothing.
…OH MY GOD…
If those 500€ were really a small amount of money for him I have really misunderstood the height of the economical step between those who have and those who simply live!
Well, after spending my 10 euro (however too much) I have smiled on my “Immense 0.25 € bets“, laughing at those who have lost, in some hours, what I can earn in months: because if you can can bet all those money in a single hand, you will not stop yourself there.
Thoughts are welcome… because I’m still too shocked!

Sapessi quanta gente conosco che si rovina giocando, è una forma di droga e come ogni forma di droga, in qualche modo pericolosa.
