Domain for sale? How to get angry in five minutes!
In these days I’m looking for a name for my company. The temporary solution is Ink On Screen, but I knew I would have needed a change. Today I had some clearer ideas on the niche it will cover initially, so a clearer idea on the name I need.
The success of a company, especially an internet driven one, is defined, amongst other things, by its name, by how easy the people remember it. Having a website like “thecompanythatproducesitalianwineforexportintheuk.com” is not a good way to attract customers.
I tried a lookup on the registrar database for each possible name that come into my mind. Finding available domain names that do not follow the example I gave you few lines ago is not easy, but it’s normal. If the names I am looking for were real websites, I would understand and step back, but knowing that every single domain I looked for is owned by a single company whose only business is to resell them to you pushed my patience to the limit.
The entire business model these entrepreneurs follow is easy: they buy a domain for 6$ and they resell them to you for “a little” more:
“… from $688 to $1,000,000…”
Personally this makes me sick. Every economic model is trying to get rid of the men in the middle, and their only way of making money is to become another man in the chain? WOW, what an amazing idea, the next step is planning the theft of sweets to the children!
I just snobed the thousand links that invited me to contact them for a quote. Paying the domain more than one hundred times the registrars fees? No thanks, I will find another idea for a name.
Do I need to comment any longer?
