Edmond Terakopia walking around London to show the capabilities of the new Canon 5D Mk II to five photobloggers. London, 4th December 2008
A camera is a tool; this is the bottom line of my thoughts. You can use a grainy film or the fastest digital camera available on the market, nevertheless it is not a camera that makes a photographer.
Apart for being lucky for having been offered a “test day” with the new Canon 5D Mk II, I feel more lucky to have met a lot of good people yesterday during our wandering around London. Edmond is one of these people. He is a photojournalist and I already knew some of his photos when he hit many front pages with some photos of the July 2005 bombing in London. I had some nice chat with him and he said two things that hit me a lot when we were talking about photojournalism.
“Photojournalism is hard and does not make you rich. and it must come from here.” he said, moving his hand on his chest “To do this job you must Love it!“
Then, when we were discussing about being in the right place at the right time, he added that you need to be the “right fit” to take the shot. I like to think that he did not mean just being able to shoot a good picture, but being able to do a job in difficult situations.
About the Canon 5D Mark II I had used for this shot I have said my thought in my previous post. Instead of using the 24-70 f/2.8 that Canon provided us with the camera, I mounted my 70-200 f/2.8 and I have to admit that the two “jewels” coupled together works wonders! Fast, precise… simply fantastic!
I discovered another thing yesterday… Do you know why the long lenses from Canon are white? Because of the thermal dispersion: long black lenses under extreme condition can have microscopic alteration that would create distortion in the image. A white body is much less affected.
