How Wi-Max will be able to change our lives!

Immagine a world where you are connected to the Net every time you want, every time you need, everywhere you are.
Immagine yourself with you laptop, or you PDA, in vacation (for example) or wherever you cannot get connected. Forgot GPRS, UMTS or useless things like that (at least here in Italy…). Think about a wireless which range will not be some meters, but kilometers. Just connect to the wireless and do whatever you need to do like you were plugged to your ADSL!
Yes, you are thinking about Wi Max!

Some sperimental location are using WiMax, trying to make the 802.16 a new standard!
Ok, I’ll think about a flat connection (like the actual ADSL) to be attached to wherever you are.
WOW, Wonderful! Checking your e-mail wherever you are, publishing the latest post while you are on the seaside, make Voip call without the need of the old, expensive GSM network.
But then my darkest part spread its wings, letting me thought about the reality, here in Italy. Italian ADSL are the more expensive internet connection in Europe: the same “Telecom Italia’s Alice 4 Mb” in Germany cost one third in respect of Italy (Where the physical cables are owned by Telecom Italia)…
I can think that when the new standard will be applied there will be some new laws to prevent some “Internet Sharing” or “Low Cost Wi Max Access”. Do you think it is impossible? There has been laws proclaimed that limit the broadcast activity here in the “Land Of The Sun”… If you have a WiFi hot spot you can be denounced if your signal is available outside your house.
Ha ha ha… Italy!
Well, I have two different hopes:
The first one is that the new governement that will be elected in 2006 will start understanding that limiting the technological advancement of a nation for the earn of few powerful people is not a solution.
The second is that we (Italians) will be able to subscribe to Slovenian Wi Max (that will reach Trieste without any problem). You know: in 10 years Slovenja has changed its shape and is surclassing Italy in too many things. Technology is one of them!

hellllo i agree that this would be great, and of course convinent for everyone.

Just one thing though the internet connection you get here is very good, the same connection in England, is more expensive quiet alot more, and the worst part of it is most if not all of the companies that provide a fast internet connection : ie BT, AOL, only give you a limited ammount of connection per month and so when your allocated ammount is used during the month, they cut your connection and you have to wait till the next month to use your internet connection, which is why, my dad goes for a slower connection because at least that way he gets to use the internet as much and as offten as he likes, it is very very slow though ask Frank ;)

Ohh and a question, just because im nosey hahaha, how often do you have a new govenment ? how does it work,? in England we vote in every 4 years for a genral election, is it the same or do you vote every year? just wondered.

Hello Katy!

The story of ADSL in Italy is boooooring… let’s think that if you decide to switch from a company to another you have to wait MONTHS. That’s because all the physical lines are held by Telecom Italia that create the prices for the resellers and try to take the customers for themself! Oki Doki, I think Italy has a lot to learn about technology and that a free culture must pass across a real liberalization of the connections. In South Korea more of the 80% of the population is connected to fast line. Here in Italy only the 35% is connected and the 10% with a “fast” line. In Europe (remember that Great Britain is not completely Europe…) the ADSL grant as far as 16 MegaBits per second; in Italy the fastest is 4 MegaBits per seconds in download. The fear of the filesharing is also cutting down the Upload speed. Sop my internet connection (one of the fastest) is 4 Mb in Download and 256 Kb in upload!!!!!
This is SILLY!
This is monopoly!

In answer to your question about the italian legislation, a government can be in charge for 5 years, but…

…ha ha ha…

BUT IN ITALY THERE HAS BEEN NO GOVERNMENT (NO ONE IN ALL THE ITALIAN DEMOCRACY) THAT HAVE BEEN IN CHARGE FOR ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!

Ha ha ha… this is not Democracy, this is a circle of babies that quarrel!

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

fortunately for mexican people, the wi-fi law is different, there have been so far 3 projects called “ciudad sin alambres”=”wireless city”, and i am very proud of that, me and some friends in Toluca (http://www.tolucawireless.org/) set up our WiFi hot spot. and i hope when i have some good money i will do the same in my home town where technology is out of date.
it feels good to be part of such revolution :)
