Keep me close
Tai keeps Meeka in his arms, in a fraternal embrace. Zen Photo Studio, London November 2008
There are times when we need a warm hug, being embraced by those we love. Those moments are like a warm hot chocolate during a cold and windy day out, when your hands freeze, battered by icy crystals.
Someone told me that I rush towards my goals, that I am constantly running to something to come. If this, from one side, means that I am constantly learning and getting better, from another it means that I get frustrated when I see things turning away. When this happens I face the reality and I fight for what I think correct, but it does not mean that a warm hug is not welcome. On the contrary even a bloody bear like me, very closed in my gesture of affection, needs it. I will never tell, but it is so.
From the moment I saw this photo I loved Meeka’s eye, so strong, so in contrast with the rest of the shot. She and tai, her brother, were already playing with us, following our direction, but being themselves. This look she gave me is very strong, very deep and in contrast with the general feeling of the rest of the photo. I like it.
During the last month we shot more than once in studio and more than once we had some problems with the flash triggers. I use a cheap trigger bought from Calumet, so I know that I cannot expect the best reliability: it does not have the quality (and the price) of a PocketWizard. The fastest shutter speed is limited to 1/160th of a second (if not 1/125th) and from time to time the flash do not fire. That is not good, but I do not think that the expense to buy a more reliable system is needed right now. If you shoot in studio, what kind of sync lead do you use?
