Scratching the surface

Scratching the surface

There are small downsides in using film, and one of these is finding your film scratched! I was quite happy about this shot, I liked the reflection of the sun on the benches when I saw, still on the developed film, those scratches. Bummer! To be honest I am not so angry for them, it happens sometimes. I like this shot even with those noises, no matter what.
Few seconds after this shot I met a couple sitting outside the bar, you can see one of them in the top left bench. The light was fantastic and they were such interesting characters with their hot coffee in front of them. I decided to chat with them a little, telling them what I was doing and so on. The discussion started with me waiting to take a photo of them, to the fact that photography is an expensive business and so on. We spoke for few minutes about digital and film, then when my presence was enough I enforced my initial question: “So, can I take a photo of you two?”
Believe me that I would have never expected the posh and almost disgusted “No” she gave me. I had a very nice reaction though, because I did not feel rejected. I was, but I did not care, this is the point. I did lose a nice scene, because that is what it was, but I bet they have lost a really nice portrait! :D
