Street Cooking

Street Cooking, originally uploaded by Carlo Nicora.

Saturday Fabiana and I attended an extremely interesting workshop held by Jonathan Taylor. The workshop was about “People and Street Portrait Photography” and has been a real challenge for me. Used to my 70-200 lens, approaching people in a complete different way, facing them less than a meter away is something highly challenging for me. I have learned a lot of things, but I have not been able to reach the level of confidence I need to face someone a meter from me and take his or her picture like this. It has been hard and in the next weeks I will try to invest some time shooting people at zero distance… or at least trying it.
This has nothing to do with techniques, composition, exposure: this is psychology and mine is a psychological barrier I have to overcome.
This shot was taken in front of the Southwark Cathedral in one of the many open air restaurants. The smell was great and the timing perfect… unfortunately there was also a long long queue for a piece of meat!

Carlo - I don’t remember how I stumbled upon your blog, but few people leave positive comments, and I just wanted to share the fact that I thoroughly enjoy seeing the other side of the pond from your lens! Keep up the awesome work! You are getting a following in ARKANSAS, USA!!

Hi, I agree with Cary. It’s very interesting how you changed your blog and I like a lot the way you take your pictures. Un bel po’ di tempo fa ero capitata qui per caso e avevo lasciato qualche commento sull’andarsene dall’Italia. E poco tempo fa sono ricapitata di nuovo qui.. I think that sometimes some picture are more meaningfull than a lot of words.. Good job. And good luck.

    Hi Lisa!
I remember the topic about Italy! It has been a long time and I am very happy that you are here again.
To be fairly honest I prefer not to think about Italy (my thoughts did not change meanwhile) and I like to express my thoughts with images. I like the lively London, the millions of people you can meet in its street.
You can find mine and Fabiana’s photos also on flickr:

They will reflect our life in photos!
