The long gaze into the abyss
“If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.“
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
I know the story behind this shot, so I cannot really understand the general feeling this photo can give. What would you say was going on between these two women?
I know they were merrily chatting along the South Bank, but when I watched this shot I saw that the eye contact between them was strong. It was maybe able to say something more, but does it?
Every time I try to read their gaze I see the scene I have lived and I cannot be objective. From my subjective point of view, the point of view of someone who lived an event in first person, I am unable to be objective. Bummer!
