Zizou and the bittersweet goodbye!

Zinedine Zidane was one of the best player I’ve ever seen. On the pitch he seemed to dance, handling the ball like a magician.

Yes, Zinedine Zidane has been a great player and the news that he won the Golden Ball does not overtake me, because he was probably one of those who deserved it… but…

Which kind of goodbye have we seen yesterday evening?

bittersweet goodbye, zizou He played brilliantly the final, being one of the most dangerous players on the pitch, but at the 110th minutes of game he got mad. I don’t defend Marco Materazzi, that provoked him (of course he did) and I think that the provocations are not sportsmanship behaviour, but if Materazzi did wrong, Zizou did worst.

He trashed away, in the last game of his career, not only the possibility to win his second World Cup, but also his sportsmanship. It doesn’t matter how much the opposing players taunt you. It doesn’t matter what comes out from their dirty mouth.

It does matter how you react to those things.

The overall image of Zidane has come out dirtier than ever, and his action probably cut the french possibilities to win the World Cup.

Did Italy deserved to win the World Cup? Probably not, because they played well only for 45 minutes, before switching off the idea of football. No, probably Italy didn’t deserve to beat France, but the ball is round, and this time the luck of the penalties, differently from 1994 and 1998, was with Italy.

Did France deserve to beat Italy in the final? Well, the played well in the second half and in the extra time and, even if the first penalties was not so clear, the refree didn’t conceded another one, so probably it’s even.

Did Zidane deserve to hold the cup?

No. Sorry Zizou, but the fact is that sometimes everyone must decide the most important thing: you decided not to have sportsmanship.

Zidane has been the winner of the Fifa Golden Ball for this year, he have won it today.

Did he deserve it?Zidane Red Card foul in the World Cup final

Well, for what I’ve seen on the pitch for 109 minutes the final rush between him and Cannavaro has been very even: a great year from both of the players, a superb World Cup from both, but zizou is going away from the played football and Cannavaro is not.

Well, Zizou, we are even now, you give us the World Cup and you kept a Golden Ball that, after having butted one of your opponent (whoever he would have been, whatever he should have told you) that Ball was going away, wasn’t it?

Indeed, in my very personal opinion, yes, Zidane deserved the Fifa most important prize. He deserved it because a single stupid action cannot cancel a great player. He deserved it because he drop France possibilities to win the world cup and, for how he had a bad unsporting behaviour, he didn’t deserve to lose everything for it.

Cannavaro will play his role, as a leader, as the best defending player I have seen in the World Cup, but his chances to win the Golden Ball, if his behaviour will remain such, will come next year!

GoodBye, Zizou!

winning a match is not about who deserve to win, is about who scores to win :)
